Cosmetology consists of technical and hands on practical training in all areas of hair, skin and nails. Students will begin by observing live demonstrations and will also be given specific state approved instructions on step-by-step procedures such as: haircutting, coloring, styling, nail and skin procedures/services.

Upon observation, the student will start by practicing on mannequin heads with human hair. Students will receive technical theory instruction through lectures, videos and guest artists. Students are required to complete textbook assignments and pass multiple choice tests as they work through the chapters of their cosmetology textbook.

As the student completes and passes their 320-hour freshman module, they advance to the clinic floor where they will work on clients to build their skill, speed and confidence. The student will use their basic skills, current salon trends for each client as they form their own personal creative style. Instructors assist students throughout their floor experience to prepare them for the real salon environment. The student will give client consultations, formulate color, chemical services and carry out the services to completion. Students are encouraged to build a clientele and to recommend professional products from our extensive professional beauty supply center. Career Academy of Beauty wants to provide a salon-like atmosphere during your schooling, which will prepare you for the future.

Eligible senior students can extern at local salons in place of a regular school day to train under an already successful stylist. This is a great way to gain hands on experience and learn what is happening in a real working salon.

Students will graduate upon completion of 1600 clock hours, completing/passing all required technical/practical operations and passing the final examination. Students will receive their diploma at the graduation ceremony.

To work professionally in the state of California, graduates will be required to pass a state examination for licensing. A final practical and written exam is given to ensure the students are ready for the State Licensing Exam after graduation. Typically if the student is eligible for pre-application they will be able to take the state exam approximately three weeks after graduation.

Job placement is available for our graduates. We provide a list of salons, posted at our school locations. There are typically more jobs available than students graduating at any given time.
